Making Movies In Michigan: Unity Studios

By: Tom Hendrickson, 2/4/2010
From tiny acorns mighty oaks grow. Still in its infancy, Allen Park's Unity Studios has visions of cinematic greatness. They've already attracted a fledgling film school and landed their first production tenant (the formerly Pittsburgh-based WAR Entertainment).

Unity Studios is in the first stages of transforming about 100 acres into a film studio space. The first phase calls for renovating a 600,000-square-foot building to add four feature-size sound stages on 10 acres along with smaller soundstages for the Lifton Institute of Media Skills. Each of the feature-sized sound stages will measure out at 25,000 square feet.

Unity's first feature film project: A civil war-era film that'll be made in conjunction with The Henry Ford. Finally, a job for all those re-enactors!
