Daniel Bell and Thomas Melchior: Electronic music stars crank out funky minimal at downtown's Oslo

Oslo
Thomas Melchior and Daniel Bell
Nov. 29 10 p.m.

Most everyone with some knowledge of Detroit techno in the 1990s is aware of the talents of Daniel Bell, whose formative years were spent here and in Windsor, where he teamed up with Richie Hawtin on some historically important releases on the Plus 8 label. But he continued to innovate after he left the region and settled in Berlin, where he created the equally important Button-Down Mind mixes, which helped shifted dance music's focus to what became known as minimal. Bell (pictured) will DJ at Oslo on Nov. 29, but he is still performs live, as proved this past Memorial Day weekend by bringing his DBX project to the Main Stage at Movement Detroit's Electronic Music Festival.

Performing with Bell at Oslo is Thomas Melchior, who also started started making his name at the dawn of the 1990s with his soulful early work as Ohm. His recent work has found homes on German and Swiss labels Perlon, Playhouse and Cadenza.

The show is promoted by Accelerate and admission is $10. Doors are 10 p.m. Oslo is at 1456 Woodward Avenue, in downtown Detroit.
