Detroit Grand Prix: Indy style and American Le Mans races come to Belle Isle track

Varoom! Varoom! Motor sports fans, this one is for you.

The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is this Weekend (Aug. 29-31). The race will be featuring cars of the American Le Mans Series, the IndyCar Series and the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Championship and will be held at the raceway at Belle Isle Park road course. 

Friday (Aug. 29) kicks off the weekend with the Free Prix day, presented by Comerica Bank. That means the gate admission is free of charge and there will open seating in select grandstands. 

The gates will open at 8 a.m. every day throughout the weekend, there will be several events between the races including concerts, Meijer family fun zone activities and driver autograph sessions.

WWJ Newsradio 950 will be broadcasting live from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Emerson Fittipaldi, two-time Formula One champion and two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500, will drive the Corvette Z06 E85 Concept pace car in the Detroit Sports Car Challenge presented by Bosch on Saturday (Aug 30). Fittipaldi will lead the field to the green flag for the start of the ninth round of the 2008 American Le Mans Series.
