Aug. 28; Aug. 30-31
Wow, as in w-o-w, is our theme for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. There is a lot to do in metro Detroit, from downtown up the Woodward corridor to Pontiac. But hardcore clubbers might spend nearly all of their time at one event - no, make that a series of events under one umbrella brand - celebrating the achievements of promotions group
Paxahau. The Ferndale-based group throws its 10-year anniversary bash this Labor Day weekend at various locations around Detroit.
After a hugely successful
Movement '08: Detroit Electronic Music Festival in May, Paxahau
is bringing in talent from the Minus and Perlon camps in Berlin, plus local artists, to help celebrate a decade of dancefloor fun in the D.
Since 1998 Paxahau has promoted electronic music and has grown to include a web archive, booking agency, record label and an event production company which produces an average of 12 events a year. With a network of alliances and resources that span the globe, Paxahau has emerged as a premier promotions group within the electronic music industry.
It starts with a pre-party, Thursday, Aug. 28, featuring Paxahau residents Chuck Flask, Rich Korach and John Johr, along with Gabe Real. The party is at Exodus, 523 Monroe St. (above the Golden Fleece), in Detroit's Greektown. 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
On Saturday, Aug. 30, Paxahau presents Perlon's Sammy Dee with DJ support by Flask at Oslo, 1456 Woodward Avenue. Doors at 10 p.m.
There are two sessions on Sunday (Aug. 31), with the first party at Z's Villa (42 Piquette St., Detroit), 1 - 10 p.m. The event is outside, rain or shine, and there is a volleyball court and horseshoes. Food will be served all day.
The party features Richie Hawtin (pictured), a longtime friend of Paxahau who grew up in Windsor and now lives in Berlin. Coincidentally, his
Minus label is also celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. Also performing is
Magda, who was born in Poland, grew up in Hamtramck and now also lives in Berlin; and Paxahau's Korach and Dan Bain.
Then at Northern Lights (660 W. Baltimore, Detroit), the party continues with Perlon femme fatale
Cassy (who delivered one of Movement's sexiext, classiest DJ sets) and Johr from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
